Ian Penney

FCPA, CA, FCIRP, LIT

My favorite part of my job is working with people. Both the staff that I get to help train and mentor (and learn from!) and the clients that I get to help be more successful.

With over 30 years of experience, Ian has dedicated his career to helping individuals and businesses navigate financial challenges. As a leader of the province’s largest team of personal debt counsellors and insolvency and restructuring professionals, he is known for his compassionate approach and deep expertise in the field.

Ian is a proud graduate of Memorial University (1992), obtained his Chartered Professional Accountant designation (1994) and obtained his Chartered Insolvency and Restructuring Professional designation and Licensed Insolvency Trustee license (both in 2001). His commitment to professional excellence has earned him national recognition, including the prestigious Fellow designation from both the Chartered Professional Accountants (2021) and the Canadian Association of Insolvency and Restructuring Professionals (2024).

One of Ian’s proudest professional achievements is his role as a Partner at Noseworthy Chapman and President of Janes & Noseworthy Ltd., where he continues to provide strategic leadership and support to clients during difficult financial times.

Ian has also made significant contributions to the profession and his community. He has served on the national executive of the Canadian Association of Insolvency and Restructuring Professionals, as President of the Newfoundland and Labrador Association of Insolvency and Restructuring Professionals, President of the Rotary Club of St. John’s and Chair of the Historic Sites Association of Newfoundland and Labrador. He currently serves on the boards of the Annual Review of Insolvency Law and the Newfoundland Symphony Orchestra.

Outside the office, Ian enjoys spending time with his three children and has a passion for snowmobiling, wine tasting, travel, and sports cars.
